Cryptids, unknown creatures, spirits, beings of lore, and clearly marked Wild Magic USA series lore.
Each state page gathers regional entries into a readable field-guide format. Wild Magic USA has its own expandable series field guide and a standalone sister map for fictional cryptids.
This atlas uses a broad field-guide definition: if a being is tied to a place, moves through the world, appears in recurring sightings or tradition, and belongs to regional lore, it can be mapped. Not every entry is a “cryptid” in the strict modern sense. Some are traditional beings, ghosts, sacred figures, hoaxes, or modern incidents. The classification labels preserve those differences rather than flattening them. Fictional entries from the Wild Magic USA book series use a separate glowing diamond marker and are labeled “Series Lore.” The data model supports future fictional cryptids across additional states, books, and a standalone Wild Magic USA sister map.
